What Ahmedabad does to a garden
Summers cross 45°C and the pre-monsoon weeks are the hardest on new planting. Large parts of the city sit on black cotton soil, which holds water badly, swells in monsoon and cracks in summer — it needs correcting before anything goes in, not after.
Water quality varies by locality. Hard borewell water shortens the life of drip emitters and shows up as leaf burn on sensitive species, so we test rather than assume.
We plant heavily with heat-tolerant and native species, mulch every bed, and set irrigation timers to early morning. On terraces we check slab load and waterproofing before designing anything.
