Terrace garden design and installation
Rooftops and balconies turned into usable green space. Load checked, waterproofing safe, and planted for Gujarat’s heat. Designed, built and maintained by one in house team.
A terrace garden is a structure first, and a garden second
Most terrace gardens in Gujarat fail for the same three reasons: the slab was never load checked, the waterproofing membrane was punctured during installation, or the growing media was ordinary garden soil that turns to concrete in May and washes out in July.
We treat every rooftop as a structure before we treat it as a garden. Load is calculated, the membrane is protected, drainage is engineered, and the media is blended to stay light and alive through a 45°C summer and a monsoon.
That is why our terraces are still producing in year three, when most are back to bare concrete.

What is included
- Site survey with slab load and waterproofing assessment
- Custom layout drawing with the exact plant list
- Root barrier and drainage layer over the membrane
- Lightweight growing media, blended not bought in bags
- Load distributed planters and raised beds
- Drip irrigation with a timer
- Planting, and handover training for your family or staff
- Scheduled maintenance plan after handover

The six checks most contractors skip
These are the reasons a terrace garden lasts or leaks. All six happen before a single plant arrives on site.
Slab load
A wet planter weighs far more than a dry one. We calculate saturated load per square metre and keep concentrated weight over beams and columns, not at mid span. If the slab cannot take what you want, we tell you before you spend anything.
Waterproofing
We never fix anything through the membrane. A root barrier and protection board go down first, then a drainage layer. Most terrace leaks are not caused by water. They are caused by roots and screws.
Growing media
Ordinary soil is heavy, compacts in heat and holds nothing in monsoon. We blend a lightweight media with cocopeat, compost and aeration material, so it stays light on the slab and alive through summer.
Drainage
Gujarat gets its rain in bursts. Every bed drains to a defined outlet with an overflow, so water leaves the terrace quickly instead of standing on the membrane.
Sunlight hours
We measure how many hours of direct sun the terrace actually gets, and where the shade falls through the day. The plant list is built from that measurement, not from a catalogue.
Water access
A terrace garden needs a tap, a drain and somewhere for a timer. We check all three at the site visit, because retrofitting a water line after the beds are built is expensive and messy.
Six kinds of terrace garden

Rooftop gardens
Full terrace conversions with raised beds, seating zones, shade structures and lawn areas. Suited to bungalows, farmhouses and penthouse terraces.

Vertical gardens
Living green walls on terrace parapets and blank facades, with integrated drip lines and a maintenance schedule.

Terrace kitchen gardens
A terrace built to grow vegetables rather than only ornamentals. See our kitchen garden service.

Balcony gardens
Compact planting for apartment balconies, using railing planters, vertical panels and container groupings that survive on limited light.

Poolside and deck planting
Planting around rooftop pools, decks and jacuzzis, chosen so leaf litter and root spread never become a problem.

Seasonal flowering terraces
Terraces planted for colour through the year, with a replanting schedule so there is never a bare month.
Four steps, and we are still here after the fourth
Free site visit
We come to the terrace, measure it, check slab condition, waterproofing age, sunlight hours and water access. No charge, no obligation.
Design and plant plan
You get a layout drawing, the exact plant or crop list, the structure specification and transparent costing before any work starts.
Installation
Our own team handles protection layers, drainage, planters, irrigation and planting, with daily supervision.
Handover and maintenance
We walk you through watering, feeding and pruning, then take over on a scheduled maintenance plan so the terrace keeps performing.
What a 45°C summer does to a rooftop
A terrace slab in Ahmedabad can run 15 to 20 degrees Celsius hotter than the air above it. Roots cook in dark containers, media dries out by midday, and species chosen for a Bangalore balcony simply die.
We plan around it: heat tolerant and native species, light coloured or insulated planters, mulch on every bed, drip irrigation on a timer rather than hand watering, and shade structures where afternoon sun is unavoidable.
For kitchen gardens we work to Gujarat’s actual growing seasons, leafy greens and methi through the cooler months, gourds and bhindi through the heat.

Cost depends on these, not on square feet alone
- Terrace area and how much of it you want planted
- Whether the existing waterproofing needs attention first
- Structure type: containers, raised beds or built in planters
- Irrigation: manual, drip, or drip with automation
- Plant sizes at installation: mature plants cost more but look finished on day one
- Whether you want a maintenance plan after handover
We do not publish a flat rate, because a flat rate would be wrong for almost everyone. You get an itemised quote after the free site visit.

Terrace gardens across six cities in Gujarat
We are based in Ahmedabad and work across Gujarat. Our home city gets same week site visits; other cities are scheduled within the fortnight.

Terrace garden questions, answered
Most can, but it must be checked before anything is built. We calculate the saturated load of the planters and media, then keep concentrated weight over beams and columns rather than at mid span. We also use lightweight growing media instead of ordinary soil, which cuts the load substantially. If your slab cannot take what you want, we tell you at the site visit, before you spend anything.
Not if it is built correctly. Leaks come from two things: roots finding their way into the waterproofing membrane, and screws or fixings driven through it. We lay a root barrier and protection board over the membrane, add a drainage layer above that, and never fix anything through it. Every bed drains to a defined outlet so water does not stand.
It depends on the area planted, the structure type, whether irrigation is automated, and the size of plants at installation. We do not publish a flat rate because it would be wrong for almost everyone. After the free site visit you get an itemised quote with no hidden additions.
No. The site visit, measurement, slab and waterproofing assessment are free across all six cities we serve. We only quote after we have seen the terrace.
A balcony or small terrace is usually two to four days. A full rooftop with built in planters, irrigation and shade structures typically runs one to three weeks, depending on structure work. You get a timeline with the design, before work starts.
More than most people expect. Through the cooler months: methi, palak, coriander, radish, carrot and tomato. Through the heat: bhindi, bottle gourd, ridge gourd, cluster bean and brinjal. Ornamentals we use heavily include bougainvillea, frangipani, adenium, ficus and heat tolerant palms. Species selection is part of the design, matched to your terrace’s actual sunlight hours.
Four to six hours of direct sun is comfortable for most ornamentals. Vegetables want six or more. Less than four hours is still workable, but the plant list narrows to shade tolerant species. We measure sunlight at the site visit rather than guessing.
Less than hand watering, if it is set up properly. Drip irrigation on a timer delivers water to the root zone instead of evaporating off the surface, and mulch on every bed cuts loss further. Most of our terraces run on a fraction of what a hose would use.
Yes, and this is what separates us from most contractors. We offer scheduled maintenance plans covering pruning, soil health, pest management, irrigation checks and seasonal replanting. You get the same supervisor on every visit and a written record of what was done.
Yes. We use container and modular planter systems rather than built in structures, so the whole garden can be lifted and moved without touching the slab or the waterproofing. Tell us at the site visit and we design for it from the start.
Yes. No chemical fertilisers or pesticides at any stage. We build soil biology with compost and organic inputs, so the vegetables are safe to eat straight from the bed.
Yes. Balconies need a different approach, using railing planters, vertical panels and container groupings sized for limited light and limited weight, but the same structural thinking applies.
Some loss in the first season is normal while plants settle. Under a maintenance plan we monitor and replace as part of the schedule. Outside a plan, we advise on what went wrong and quote replacements separately.
Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Anand, Rajkot and Surat. Ahmedabad projects usually get a site visit within the same week; other cities are scheduled within the fortnight.
